Sitka Receives National Award

Author: Senator Bert Stedman

I attend an event honoring the community of Sitka this weekend.  Sitka has been recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a “distinctive destination”.  The trust highlighted cultural and recreational opportunities that make Sitka different from typical vacation destinations.  Sitka enjoys a rich history dating back to Russian America, and an environment perfect for enjoying the outdoors. Sitka is the first community in Alaska to receive this distinction.  The award showcases the community’s heritage and will help attract visitors to Sitka.
