Members of the conference committee, tasked with negotiating the differences between the Senate’s versions of the state, operating, and mental health budgets and those budgets passed by the House back in April, reached a tentative agreement on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. The negotiated budget deal was still subject to a vote by the House and Senate before it would be sent to the Governor. (From Left) Representing the House were Representative Dan Ortiz (I-Ketchikan), Representative Bart LeBon (R-Fairbanks), as well as finance co-chair Representative Kelly Merrick (R- Eagle River). The Senate was represented by finance co-chairs Senator Bert Stedman (R-Sitka) and Senator Click Bishop (R-Fairbanks), as well as Senator Bill Wielechowski (D-Anchorage).
