I was saddened to hear of the passing of J.C. Conley this week. J.C. was a long-time community leader in Ketchikan who contributed a great deal to Alaska. Over the course of two decades he served in numerous leadership roles including three terms on the Ketchikan Borough Assembly, President of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce, Southeast Conference Board member, and a founding member of the Marine Transportation Advisory Board. I met J.C. during my first year in the Senate, and valued getting his perspective on important issues. The legislature passed a citaition honoring his memory and contribution to Alaska. He was a strong voice for Alaska and will be missed.
