I was saddened to hear of the passing of former Senator Richard “Dick” Eliason. Dick was a long-time Southeast leader and served Sitka in the legislature for over 20 years. He was a champion for our state’s fisheries, and led passage of Alaska’s ban on salmon farming. As one of my predecessors in the Senate he leaves a venerable legacy, and I greatly benefited getting his perspective on issues facing our state. My condolences go out to his wife Patricia and their family. I’ve introduced a memorial citation in Dick’s honor. There will be a memorial service for Senator Eliason on April 8th at 12pm at Centennial Hall in Sitka.
