I just returned from Southeast Conference’s annual meeting in Petersburg. The sunny weather and warm Norwegian hospitality made for an excellent event. Lt. Governor Craig Campbell kicked off the 3-day conference which featured presentations on regional economic development, transportation, vocational training, tourism, fisheries, aquaculture, strategic planning workshops and a half-day session on energy. Wednesday evening we held the annual membership banquet and scholarship auction at the historic Sons of Norway Lodge on Sing Lee Alley. This year’s auction was appropriately dedicated to the memory of long-time Southeast Conference board member and advocate J.C. Conley. Special thanks to former Prince Rupert Mayor Herb Pond who may have found his new calling – comedic auctioneer!

I’d like to personally thank Southeast Conference Executive Director Shelly Wright, Board President Maxine Thompson, Mayor Al Dwyer and the entire community of Petersburg for rolling out the red carpet and hosting such a wonderful conference this year. I look forward to seeing you all next year in Ketchikan.
