I traveled to Barrow this week to attend the second meeting of the Alaska Northern Waters Task Force.
As Alaska’s northernmost community, Barrow is a good location to consider Alaska’s interests regarding arctic issues. The meeting featured public testimony from the community as well as presentations on arctic transportation, communications, and energy.
The meeting was held in conjunction with the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER) Arctic Caucus. The joint meeting was a great opportunity for U.S. and Canadian leaders to discuss arctic issues and begin to identify solutions to future challenges to development.
I enjoyed our time in Barrow and look forward to continuing the task force’s work to put Alaska at the forefront of U.S. Arctic Policy.
