At the request of Senator Bert Stedman, Governor Walker’s office has agreed to review all relevant data and consider adding Southeast Alaska to the request for fisheries disaster relief from the federal government for the poor 2016 pink salmon harvest.
The level of decrease in revenue and economic impacts on average will be considered, along with other information. Senator Stedman respectfully suggested that the decrease in revenue per vessel or per permit should also be under thoughtful consideration.
“The actual catch this summer of 15 million pink salmon is half of the projected 34 million forecasted. I have spoken directly with the fisherman and fish processors in the communities I represent and they are definitely feeling the effect of the poor pink salmon run this season. I’m grateful the Governor’s office is willing to consider adding Southeast fisherman to the disaster declaration request.”
