Historic ferry schedule from 1964

The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) recently announced that the M/V Malaspina will sail a special voyage as part of the AMHS 50th Anniversary celebration. The Golden Voyage, inspired by the vessel’s 1963 inaugural sailing, will run from May 1-5, 2013 and will include community events in Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Juneau, Haines and Skagway.

At each stop along the voyage the M/V Malaspina will spend additional time in port to participate in 50th Anniversary community events which include showcasing the unique culture and heritage of each community, activities for children and tours onboard the ferry.

The voyage will also feature two special cruises: one from Ketchikan, around Revillagigedo Island and through Misty Fjords National Monument; the other sailing from downtown Juneau to Tracy Arm Fjord, featuring a performance by the New Archangel and Naa Kahidi Dancers of Sitka as preview to the community event in Sitka scheduled for this fall.

“The 50th Anniversary is so much more than a celebration of the AMHS, it’s a celebration of the communities throughout the state and the travelers to and from Alaska who have relied on the fleet for 50 years,” said AMHS General Manager Captain John Falvey. “It’s our honor to be a part of the numerous community events planned for this year.”

Travelers wishing to participate in multiple community events may also book travel on the M/V Malaspina throughout the Golden Voyage, sailing its entirety from Ketchikan to Skagway or between ports along the way.
