Before the start of session, I traveled outside to conduct two Energy Council meetings. The first meeting was the Energy Council’s 2012 Global Energy and Environmental Issues Conference held in New Orleans on December 6th – 9th.  A special guest at this conference was Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell. Because of his expertise on Arctic policy matters, I invited the Lt. Governor to address the Council as part of a panel on the topic, “Leadership and the Arctic – Why it Matters.”  The conference was extremely informative due in large part to Lt. Governor Treadwell’s input and I’m grateful to him for his participation.  The second meeting was held in Washington D.C. on January 11th and was a planning session for the Energy Council’s 2013 Federal Energy and Environmental Matters Conference.  At this meeting, I had an opportunity to engage in lengthy discussions about mutual energy policy with officials from Canada.
