Today, the Senate Resources Committee heard the second of a two-part presentation by PFC Energy on oil taxation and oil industry behavior.

PFC Energy, a global consulting firm specializing in the oil and gas industry, is currently under contract with the Legislative Budget & Audit Committee to provide expert testimony to the Legislature on the state’s oil and gas tax regime.

The Senate Resources Committee scheduled two public hearings with PFC Energy: Thursday’s presentation centered on the decision-making processes used by large, international oil companies when deciding when and where to make multi-million and billion dollar investments; today’s presentation focused on analyzing Alaska’s progressivity tax and comparing it to similar taxes in other parts of the globe.  (Progressivity is the part of our tax system that increases the amount of tax owed by an oil producer as the price and profit from a barrel of oil increases.)

The entire PFC Energy presentation is available here.

PFC Energy will present to the Senate Finance Committee later in the legislative session.
