{"id":4685,"date":"2019-03-11T21:30:36","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T05:30:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=4685"},"modified":"2019-03-11T21:30:36","modified_gmt":"2019-03-12T05:30:36","slug":"north-tongass-bridges-project-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=4685","title":{"rendered":"North Tongass Bridges Project Underway"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I was very pleased to hear from the Alaska Department\nof Transportation &amp; Public Facilities and read in the media that work has\nfinally begun on the First &amp; Second Waterfall Creek bridges in Ketchikan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Constituents in this area of Ketchikan have been concerned\nabout the inadequacy of these bridges for a decade.&nbsp; My office has been monitoring this project\nfor years and when I toured these bridges a few years ago they were in bad\nshape.&nbsp; I saw that asphalt had worn out\nand the wooden substructure of the bridge was exposed \u2013 in fact, you could see\nthrough the bridge to the creek underneath.&nbsp;\nIt\u2019s long past time to replace these old bridges with more modern\nstructures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project is good for public safety and\ncommerce.&nbsp; Driving conditions will be\nsafer and fire trucks will no longer be limited.&nbsp; Also, land developers and builders\u2019 dump\ntrucks will no longer be weight restricted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was very pleased to hear from the Alaska Department of Transportation &amp; Public Facilities and read in the media that work has finally begun on the First &amp; Second Waterfall Creek bridges in Ketchikan.
