{"id":4430,"date":"2017-08-15T09:33:36","date_gmt":"2017-08-15T17:33:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=4430"},"modified":"2017-08-15T09:33:36","modified_gmt":"2017-08-15T17:33:36","slug":"stedman-appointed-chair-of-legislative-budget-audit-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=4430","title":{"rendered":"Stedman Appointed Chair of Legislative Budget &#038; Audit Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On August 14, 2017, Senate President Pete Kelly announced that I will now chair the <a href=\"http:\/\/lba.akleg.gov\/\">Legislative Budget &amp; Audit Committee (LB&amp;A).<\/a>\u00a0 The LB&amp;A committee is one of two permanent interim committees of the Alaska State Legislature, the other being the Legislative Council.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Gary Stevens had to step down from chairing LB&amp;A because of his candidacy for Lt. Governor.\u00a0 State law prohibits legislators from serving on the committee if they file to run for statewide office.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is responsible for ensuring that legislators are provided with nonpartisan and unbiased fiscal analysis, budget reviews, and performance reviews of state agencies.\u00a0 The committee also has the authority to monitor lending and investment activities of the state.\u00a0 Two independent agencies fall under the auspices and purview of the LB&amp;A committee:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/legaudit.akleg.gov\/\">Division of Legislative Audit<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/legfin.akleg.gov\/\">Division of Legislative Finance<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve Alaska and I look forward to this extra duty and the challenges it will bring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On August 14, 2017, Senate President Pete Kelly announced that I will now chair the Legislative Budget &amp; Audit Committee (LB&amp;A).\u00a0 The LB&amp;A committee is one of two permanent interim committees of the Alaska State Legislature, the other being the Legislative Council.
