{"id":3897,"date":"2015-06-24T10:20:56","date_gmt":"2015-06-24T18:20:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=3897"},"modified":"2015-06-24T10:20:56","modified_gmt":"2015-06-24T18:20:56","slug":"royal-dutch-shell-stakeholder-team-visits-ketchikan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=3897","title":{"rendered":"Royal Dutch Shell \u201cStakeholder Team\u201d Visits Ketchikan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group of employees from Royal Dutch Shell visited Ketchikan last week.\u00a0 Shell is a global oil and gas producer currently exploring offshore plays in the Chukchi Sea.\u00a0 The purpose of their visit was to meet with representatives of the Ketchikan community, tribes, and businesses to get an idea of the infrastructure, logistical support, and other resources the community may be able to offer for their future relationship.<\/p>\n<p>I am very pleased officials from Shell have visited Alaska to tour one of the communities in my district.\u00a0 The prospect of home porting some of Shell\u2019s Arctic offshore<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3898 size-medium alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/WikiSemiSubmersible-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"WikiSemiSubmersible\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/WikiSemiSubmersible-300x213.jpg 300w, http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/WikiSemiSubmersible-1024x726.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> fleet in Southeast Alaska offers substantial economic opportunity for us.<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary of Energy, Dr. Ernest Moniz, asked his official advisory group, the National Petroleum Council, (NPC) to review the Arctic\u2019s oil and gas deposits and current exploration and production technology.\u00a0 NPC was to determine if environmentally responsible energy development could occur and if so, the benefits to the country\u2019s energy security.\u00a0 As the member from The Energy Council to the National Petroleum Council, I was included in the steering committee that produced the report.<\/p>\n<p>Our groundbreaking report which can be found here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npcarcticpotentialreport.org\/\">http:\/\/www.npcarcticpotentialreport.org\/<\/a>\u00a0supported exploration and production in the Alaska Arctic while being environmentally responsible.\u00a0 Development will improve America\u2019s \u201cnational, economic, and energy security,\u201d and protect America in the future when shale oil production declines.<\/p>\n<p>Our Southeast Alaska ports have the potential to play a critical role in providing support for Shell\u2019s Arctic offshore fleet.
