{"id":3599,"date":"2014-10-22T15:46:18","date_gmt":"2014-10-22T23:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=3599"},"modified":"2014-10-22T15:46:18","modified_gmt":"2014-10-22T23:46:18","slug":"big-thorne-timber-sale-awarded-to-viking-lumber-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=3599","title":{"rendered":"Big Thorne Timber Sale Awarded to Viking Lumber"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I was pleased to hear that the U.S. Forest Service recently awarded a contract for the Big Thorne timber sale to Viking Lumber Co. on Prince of Wales Island.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The contract will allow Viking Lumber to log almost 3,800 acres of timber between Thorne Bay and Coffman Cove.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Even though this is only a portion of the full Big Thorne sale (6,000 acres of old-growth forest and 2,000 acres of second-growth forest), it\u2019s still welcome news for our struggling timber industry in Southeast.
