{"id":3472,"date":"2014-07-09T11:58:16","date_gmt":"2014-07-09T19:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=3472"},"modified":"2014-07-09T11:58:16","modified_gmt":"2014-07-09T19:58:16","slug":"the-national-petroleum-councils-arctic-research-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=3472","title":{"rendered":"The National Petroleum Council\u2019s Arctic Research Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In my <\/span><a title=\"previous newsletter\" href=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?m=201404\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">previous newsletter<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">,<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I mentioned my recent appointment to the <\/span><a title=\"National Petroleum Council\" href=\"http:\/\/www.npc.org\/\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">National Petroleum Council<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">,<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> a federally chartered advisory committee to the U.S. Secretary of Energy with respect to any matter involving oil and natural gas.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In May, the National Petroleum Council accepted a request from Secretary of Energy, Ernest Moniz, to offer advice in the area of Arctic research. Specifically, Secretary Moniz asked, \u201cWhat research should the Department of Energy pursue and what technology constraints must be addressed to ensure prudent development of Arctic oil and gas resources while advancing U.S. energy and economic security and ensuring environmental stewardship?\u201d In response to the Secretary\u2019s request, the Chair of the National Petroleum Council, Mr. James T. Hackett, CEO of Anadarko Petroleum, commissioned a Committee on Arctic Research of which I was appointed a member. The Committee will be responsible for developing, for the full Council\u2019s consideration, a proposed response to the Secretary\u2019s request for advice.
