I was honored to serve as Grand Marshal of the Fourth of July parade, and humbled by Mayor Lew Williams\u2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krbd.org\/2012\/05\/25\/ketchikan-chamber-chooses-stedman-as-grand-marshall\/\" target=\"_blank\">kind words<\/a> in nominating me.<a href=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Stedman-parade-8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2521\" title=\"Stedman Parade\" src=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Stedman-parade-8-300x234.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Stedman-parade-8-300x234.jpg 300w, http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Stedman-parade-8.jpg 686w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The celebration showcased numerous projects Ketchikan has undertaken to grow Southeast Alaska\u2019s economy and improve our quality of life.\u00a0 I saw the benefits of these efforts firsthand when I addressed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krbd.org\/2012\/07\/05\/fire-station-officially-opens\/\" target=\"_blank\">grand opening<\/a> of Ketchikan&#8217;s Fire Station #1.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The station will enhance public safety in the community and the training of Ketchikan&#8217;s firefighters.\u00a0 The new facility will last\u00a0for generations, and I\u2019m glad the Legislature appropriated funding to help make this project possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It\u2019s a great honor to represent Ketchikan in the Legislature, and I enjoyed celebrating America\u2019s birthday with the community.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to thank the\u00a0Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce and the City of Ketchikan for their invitation and for organizing a great celebration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I enjoyed visiting Ketchikan this week to celebrate Independence Day.\u00a0 The community chose \u201cBuilding for Ketchikan\u2019s Future\u201d as the theme for this year\u2019s festivities.
