I recently returned from a visit to Petersburg and Wrangell.\u00a0 The trip gave me an opportunity to meet with local leaders and constituents, and review important community projects.<\/p>\n
In Wrangell, I visited the community harbors and boat haul-out facility.\u00a0 These infrastructure projects have helped create jobs and attract new businesses to the community.\u00a0 While in town, I also visited the Wrangell Legislative Information Office, which is now open year-round to assist the community in dealing with state matters.\u00a0 I also sat down with local press to talk about community issues and the upcoming legislative session. \u00a0You can view these stories on the Wrangell Sentinel<\/a> and KSTK<\/a> radio websites.<\/p>\n While in Petersburg, I visited the community\u2019s new fire hall which is near completion.\u00a0 This is an important public safety project and longstanding community priority. Petersburg is also preparing several harbor projects through the state\u2019s municipal harbor matching grant program.\u00a0 I\u2019m pleased the Governor fully funded this program in his FY13 Capital Budget. \u00a0Fisheries are the lifeblood of Petersburg and maritime jobs created by these harbor improvements will help grow our economy and improve the competitiveness of our regional fleet.<\/p>\n I enjoyed my time in these communities and look forward to working to advance local issues during the current legislative session.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I recently returned from a visit to Petersburg and Wrangell.\u00a0 The trip gave me an opportunity to meet with local leaders and constituents, and review important community projects.
