{"id":1429,"date":"2011-04-06T18:13:01","date_gmt":"2011-04-07T02:13:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=1429"},"modified":"2011-09-09T12:06:12","modified_gmt":"2011-09-09T20:06:12","slug":"senate-bills-aid-communities-and-school-districts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=1429","title":{"rendered":"Senate Bills Aid Communities and School Districts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During this past week the Senate passed two pieces of legislation that will aid Alaska communities and school districts.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.state.ak.us\/basis\/get_bill.asp?bill=SB%20%2084&amp;session=27\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Bill 84<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legis.state.ak.us\/basis\/get_bill.asp?bill=SB%20%2097&amp;session=27\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Bill 97 <\/a>will increase per-student funding for Alaska\u2019s schools and enhance the state revenue sharing program.\u00a0 The bills reflect the Senate\u2019s commitment to help advance local solutions for issues facing our communities.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 84 takes several steps to improve education funding.\u00a0 The bill increases the Base Student Allocation (BSA) that each school district receives by $110 to $5,790.\u00a0 This is a 1.9% increase in per-pupil funding and will help school district budgets keep pace with inflation.\u00a0 The legislature has shown a commitment to generous funding for education and this bill continues that support.\u00a0 SB 84 also provides for a dedicated funding stream for vocational education and expands tax credits that encourage donations to educational institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 97 improves the state revenue sharing program by providing extra aid to municipalities and school districts during periods of high oil prices.\u00a0 While elevated oil prices bring in substantial revenue to state coffers, it can have drastic consequences for rural areas suffering with high fuel prices.\u00a0 This bill links the amount of revenue sharing to the price of oil, making additional money available when Alaska receives significant surplus revenue.\u00a0 This shares Alaska\u2019s commonly owned wealth in times of abundance to benefit communities and all Alaskans.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pleased the Senate took the lead in passing these measures, and hope they will receive serious consideration in the State House.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During this past week the Senate passed two pieces of legislation that will aid Alaska communities and school districts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[7,33,57],"class_list":["post-1429","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","tag-bert-stedman","tag-education","tag-revenue-sharing"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1429","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1429"}],"version-history":[{"count":7,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1429\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1431,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1429\/revisions\/1431"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1429"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1429"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1429"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
