{"id":1166,"date":"2010-11-19T15:43:08","date_gmt":"2010-11-20T00:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=1166"},"modified":"2011-01-13T18:23:38","modified_gmt":"2011-01-14T03:23:38","slug":"alaska-regional-ports-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=1166","title":{"rendered":"Alaska Regional Ports Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Addressing-2010-Alaska-Ports-Conference.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Addressing-Alaska-Ports-Con.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Addressing-Alaska-Ports-Con1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1188\" title=\"Addressing Alaska Ports Con\" src=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Addressing-Alaska-Ports-Con1-300x243.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Addressing-Alaska-Ports-Con1-300x243.jpg 300w, http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Addressing-Alaska-Ports-Con1.jpg 945w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/a>I just returned from Anchorage and speaking at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poa.usace.army.mil\/en\/cw\/AKPortsStudy.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Alaska Regional Ports Conference<\/a>.\u00a0 The meeting was a good\u00a0opportunity to talk with state leaders about accomplishments and challenges improving our state\u2019s marine infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska&#8217;s ports and harbors are a vital part of\u00a0our state&#8217;s\u00a0economic future.\u00a0 Nearly all state owned harbors are in Southeast, so how these assets are managed is important to our region.\u00a0 When I arrived in Juneau 7 years ago, I brought a personal commitment to ensure the rest of the state understands the importance of Alaska\u2019s ports and harbors.\u00a0 The legislature has led the way on this issue.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve increased\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Who-owns-Alaskas-harbors.pdf\">local ownership<\/a> of harbors and appropriated over $215 million in port and harbor improvements during the last 6 years.\u00a0 The State of Alaska is also partnered with the Army Corps of Engineers and the Denali Commission to develop a strategic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poa.usace.army.mil\/en\/cw\/AKPortsStudy.htm\" target=\"_blank\">roadmap<\/a> for revitalizing our ports &amp;
