{"id":1070,"date":"2010-11-01T10:30:35","date_gmt":"2010-11-01T18:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=1070"},"modified":"2010-11-17T17:04:45","modified_gmt":"2010-11-18T02:04:45","slug":"harbormasters-conference-in-wrangell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/?p=1070","title":{"rendered":"Harbormasters Conference in Wrangell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I addressed the annual conference of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alaskaharbors.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alaska Association of Harbormasters &amp; Port Directors<\/a> in Wrangell.\u00a0 This is a great group of folks and I always enjoy discussing our mutual interest in the coastal infrastructure so vital to our state.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska\u2019s harbors play a critical role in this state\u2019s economy and our quality of life.\u00a0 In coastal Alaska,\u00a0 commerce is principally conducted via marine transportation and these community harbors are our roads.<\/p>\n<p>During my time in the legislature I\u2019ve worked to ensure Alaska understands the importance of our harbor network.\u00a0 Working with local harbormasters and colleagues in Juneau we implemented\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dot.state.ak.us\/stwddes\/desports\/harbor_grant.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">municipal harbor grant program<\/a> that advanced local ownership of harbors.\u00a0 During the past several years the legislature has led the way on this issue\u00a0by appropriating over $50 million to help revitalize our harbors.\u00a0 Going forward, harbormasters have identified nearly $100 million in future port and harbor maintenance statewide.\u00a0 I will continue to work with local leaders on improving our state\u2019s marine infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed the opportunity to\u00a0meet with local leaders on these issues.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to thank Steve Corporon and the association for their invitation, and also recognize Wrangell Mayor Jeremy Maxand and Harbormaster Greg Meissner for organizing a great conference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I addressed the annual conference of the Alaska Association of Harbormasters &#038; Port Directors in Wrangell.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[7,28,6,26],"class_list":["post-1070","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","tag-bert-stedman","tag-harbors","tag-transportation","tag-wrangell"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1070","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1070"}],"version-history":[{"count":12,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1070\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1075,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1070\/revisions\/1075"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1070"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1070"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/bertstedman.com\/new\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1070"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
